Wildcats Close Out NCAA East Regionals, Punch 12 More Tickets to Eugene

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – 20 NCAA qualifiers for the Cats!

The UK track and field team closed out the final day in Jacksonville, Fla. at the NCAA East First Rounds with 12 more Wildcats punching their tickets to Eugene for the NCAA Championships during today’s quarterfinals.

Senior Sophie Galloway started off day four of the regionals, finishing sixth in the first round of the women’s triple jump. Galloway punched the second ticket to the NCAA Championships of her career with a season-best 12.50m/41-0.25 mark.

The women’s 4x100m relay team, including Stacey Onyepunuka, Hannah Douglas, Morgan Davis and Sharmelle Holmes, also punched their ticket to the National Championships in the quarterfinals in the first of two Kentucky women’s relay teams to qualify for Eugene on Saturday.

In the women’s 100m hurdles, after qualifying for the quarterfinals during Thursday’s events, both Emmi Scales and Camden Bentley secured their spots in Eugene. Scales finished fourth in the event with a lifetime best 12.93 time, the fifth-fastest time in program history.

Janet Jepkemboi Amimo and Jenna Schwinghamer both qualified for the trip to Eugene in the women’s 800m quarterfinal, finishing sixth and 11th, respectively. Jepkemboi Amimo, for the third time this season, as well as the second time this week, broke the UK 800m record with a 2:00.38 time. Schwinghamer also posted a personal-best time of 2:02.38.

The women’s 4x400m relay team, consisting of Alysia Johnson, Douglas, A’Laji Bradley and Cha’iel Johnson capped off the East Regionals with another ticket punched to Eugene for Kentucky and the final qualifying spot for the Wildcats in Jacksonville by placing sixth with a 3:28.70 time.

With the conclusion of the NCAA Regionals, the Wildcats will now look to Eugene, Ore. where 20 athletes will compete for a National Championship at Hayward Field on June 11-14 in the 2025 season finale.
