
NCAA Track and Field First Round Qualifiers Announced
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky Wildcats track and field team is set for the start of national postseason competition with 31 athletes have qualified to represent Kentucky at the NCAA East First Rounds in Jacksonville, Fla. on May 28-31, hosted by the University of North Florida.
On the women’s side, the Wildcats will send 19 athletes to Jacksonville for the four-day championship meet, headlined by SEC medalists Janet Jepkemboi Amimo, Kate Powers, Payton Phillips and the 4x400m relay team Alysia Johnson, Oneika McAnnuff, Hannah Douglas and A’Laji Bradley.
The men’s list of qualifiers is headlined by recently crowned SEC Champion Collins Kirprop Kipngok finishing the regular season with the second-fastest time in the men’s 3000m steeplechase in the east region. Others making the trip to Jacksonville include, Luke Brown (TJ), Carlie Makarawu (200m/4x100m) and the 4x100m relay team, consisting of Makarawu, Clinton Muunga, Miles Jones and Josh Onwunili.
The top 12 competitors from each individual event and the top 12 team from each relay event advance from each first round. The qualifiers will automatically advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. on June 11-14.
