Men’s Golf Welcomes Home Luke Coyle as Transfer

by Greg Welsh

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Luke Coyle, a native of the Bluegrass state who spent two seasons at the University of Alabama, will transfer home to Kentucky as announced Thursday by men’s golf head coach Gator Todd.

“We are thrilled to add Luke to our roster,” Todd said. “He has a strong competitive background and will fit perfectly into our culture. He’s a winner and a competitor who, most importantly, understands what it means to carry the Kentucky bag. We expect him to make an immediate impact this fall.”

In two years with the Crimson Tide, Coyle played in seven events and posted a scoring average of 74.62 across 21 total rounds. He managed four rounds at par-or-better and had his best career finish at the 2024 Mason Rudolph Championship, where he tied for 27th at 4-over par total.

Coyle is a native of Campbellsville, Kentucky and attended Taylor County High School where he played on the varsity team beginning in seventh grade. He was named Mr. Golf in the state of Kentucky in back-to-back years in 2021 and 2022 and helped lead his team to consecutive state championships in 2019 and 2020.

On the junior circuit, Coyle won the 2020 AJGA Junior All-Star Invitational and was named to the 2020 Rolex Junior All-America Second Team that same year. He tied for seventh at the 2022 Junior PGA Championship, was fourth at the 2021 Bobby Chapman Invitational and seventh again at the 2021 Barbasol Junior Championship.

Coyle will join the Wildcats this coming fall with two years of eligibility remaining.
